Overview
The Serengeti National Park is Tanzania's oldest and most famous national park, renowned for its annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebra. The park covers 14,750 square kilometers of grassland plains, savanna, riverine forest, and woodlands.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa, with large populations of lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. The name "Serengeti" comes from the Maasai word "siringet," meaning "endless plains."
